Welcome to The Willows

Mature trees, eclectic residents, and timeless charm

Perhaps best known for its location two miles from Facebook’s headquarters, The Willows is an eclectic community situated between Menlo Park and Palo Alto. The Bayshore Freeway to the north provides convenient transportation, while parks and community events bring a small-town feel to a world where neighbors don’t often wave hello to one another. Since the turn of the millennium, many older homes have been meticulously renovated into bright, airy California-style retreats.

A close-knit sense of community best describes The Willows. Friendly eateries and events are abundant, making it a wonderful, peaceful place to raise a family. Close proximity to San Francisco and some of the best Asian cuisine in the country has not escaped residents of nearby suburbs. Menlo BBQ serves family-style Korean barbecue with gluten-free options to accommodate modern diets. From the outside, it might appear as a bit of a “hole in the wall,” but generous portions and colorful presentation have built a loyal following for delicious short ribs, spicy pork sandwiches, and Korean-style beef. Another stop for authentic flavors is found at Mardini‘s Deli Cafe. This cornerstone of the community is well-known for more modern versions of the classics such as Greek salads, falafel wraps, gyros, and a healthy array of vegetarian options. For something a bit more upscale, Quattro serves northern Italian comforts in an upscale setting featuring vast floor-to-ceiling glass windows. As one of the signature restaurants at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley at East Palo Alto, specialty dishes such as handmade pasta, branzino, and flatbreads have showcased the best in NorCal cuisine to both hotel patrons and local visitors.

Every week, a vibrant chance to sample the best of the neighborhood takes place at the Off the Grid Food Truck Market. On Wednesday evenings, attendees wander and sample creations ranging from barbecue to brunch to Peruvian and Asian. Off the Grid draws in hundreds of visitors each week, making this a favorite family-friendly event. Other popular local happenings include yoga in the park, book groups, children’s storytime, and cooking demonstrations. On a more regular basis, residents of The Willows are afforded access to a number of modern luxuries, such as The Willows Market. Here, you can find artisan collections of high-quality produce, local meats, wines, craft beer, a regular collection of food truck pop-ups, and weekly tastings that have put this mom-and-pop shop mile above others.

Menlo Park City School District boasts some of the finest schools in the region. In particular, Laurel Elementary School is a very high-rated campus. Split into an upper and lower school just minutes from one another, Laurel boasts a Spanish immersion program for students of all ages, high testing scores, and is a winner of the Kent Exemplary Program Award.
